Does Al Recommend Your Business? Here Is a Free Way to Find Out

BLUF: When a buyer asks AI for the best company in your area, AI names a few businesses and skips everyone else. You are recommended or you are rejected. AI Trust Signals Recommends is a free check, with no signup, that shows you which side of that line you are on today, on both ChatGPT and Gemini.

Key Takeaways

  • AI does not rank businesses the way Google did. There is no page two. You are in the answer or you are out of it.
  • Checking your own business inside your own ChatGPT account gives you a flattering result, because the model already knows you.
  • Recommends runs the check clean, the way a stranger would see it, across ChatGPT and Gemini at the same time.
  • Of 4,225 businesses we scored, only 11% score High on the review signal AI actually reads. Most owners are proud of a reputation AI cannot see.
  • The check is free, takes a couple of minutes, and asks for nothing but your product and your market.
Marcus Sheridan on why AI either recommends you or rejects you.

There is no page two anymore

For 20 years, the whole game was Google. You worried about blue links. You worried about whether you were on the first page, and where on that page you sat. If you slipped to position eight, that hurt, but you were still there. Someone could still scroll down and find you.

That safety net is gone.

Ask AI for the best roofer in your town and you do not get ten links. You get an answer. Three names, maybe five. Marcus Sheridan puts it plainly in the video above: you are recommended or you are rejected. There is no ranking to climb slowly. There is no second page holding your name.

This is the part that catches owners off guard. You can have a strong business, happy customers, and a website you paid good money for, and still not appear in that answer. Nothing about your work changed. The gatekeeper changed.

Your own AI account is telling you what you want to hear

Here is where most owners go wrong when they try to check this themselves.

They open ChatGPT, the same account they use every day, and type something like "best pool builder in Richmond." Their company shows up. They feel fine about it and move on.

That result is not real. Your account has history with you. It has your past chats, your business name, your searches. The model is answering a question it already knows the context for. Of course it names you.

Your buyer has none of that. She is a stranger typing a question cold. She gets a different answer, and you never see it.

That gap between what you see and what your buyer sees is the whole reason we built this tool.

The number that explains most of it

When owners find out they are missing from an AI answer, the first thing they say is some version of "but we have 4.9 stars and 300 reviews."

That rating is real. It is also evidence from people who already chose you. It says nothing about the people who looked, did not see you, and went somewhere else. And there is a harder problem underneath it.

We scored the review signal across 4,225 businesses in the AI Trust Signals database. Here is how they landed.

Low52.4%

Nearly nine in ten businesses are not scoring High on the one signal owners assume they have covered. A big part of that comes down to where the reviews live. Our testing across thousands of reports shows that Google Business Profile, Google Maps, and Facebook reviews are largely invisible to the frontier AI models. The places you have been collecting proof for years are not the places AI is reading.

There is a second trap. Having all your reviews in one place scores lower than having them spread across several trusted sources. AI reads concentration as risk. One channel of praise looks thinner than proof coming from a few directions at once.

So you can be genuinely well reviewed and still look unproven to the machine that is now answering for you.

How to run the check

Marcus walks through the free check on screen, step by step.

The check takes about as long as reading this section.

  1. Go to aitrustsignals.com/recommends.
  2. Enter what you sell. Not your company name, your actual product or service. Roofing. Fiberglass pools. Basement waterproofing. Veterinary care.
  3. Enter the market you want to win. Your city, your metro, wherever your buyers are.
  4. Click the button and read the results.

You will see who ChatGPT names and who Gemini names, side by side. No account, no card, no signup form standing between you and the answer.

Then comes the part that matters, which is what you do with what you see.

Marcus ran it on his own company

This is the part of the video worth watching twice.

Marcus searched fiberglass pools in Richmond, Virginia, which is his own market, for his own company, River Pools. On Gemini he came up first. He built that business into the most visited pool website in the world, so first place tracks.

Then he looked at the ChatGPT column. River Pools was not in the five.

The same company. The same reputation. The same twenty years of content that made him the name everyone in the pool industry cites. Recommended by one model, invisible on the other, in the same second.

His reaction in the video is the right one. Looks like we have some work to do.

That is what a clean check does. It does not tell you that you have a problem. It shows you, and then you decide whether it is worth fixing. If it can happen to the guy who wrote the book on this, it can happen to you.

The one thing to do next

You do not need a strategy session to find out where you stand. You need two minutes and an honest look.

Run your own business through the check. Then run the competitor you worry about most, and see whether AI gives them the answer it is not giving you.

Go to aitrustsignals.com/recommends. It is free, there is no signup, and you will know within minutes whether AI is recommending you or skipping you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is AI Trust Signals Recommends really free?

Yes. There is no signup, no account, and no credit card. You enter what you sell and the market you serve, and you get your result. We built it as an open check because owners deserve to see what AI says about them before anyone tries to sell them anything.

Why not run this check in my own ChatGPT account?

Your account carries your history. It knows your business name and your past questions, so it answers with context your buyer does not have. That produces a friendly result that does not match reality. Recommends runs the query clean, the way a stranger sees it.

Which AI models does Recommends check?

Recommends currently shows results from ChatGPT and Gemini side by side. Seeing both matters, because businesses often appear on one and not the other. That split is the most common surprise owners run into, and it points straight at the gap worth fixing first.

What if I am not recommended by either model?

That is useful information, and it is fixable. Being absent usually means AI cannot verify enough about your business to feel safe naming you. The next step is finding out which signals of trust are missing, then closing them one at a time.
